We love Karima so much that half of us play in her band. She's becoming a busy bod these days so keep your eyes peeled!
Walk's electric sequencer blues is just what the doctor ordered, and quite a lot of people up and down the country are experiencing its health benefits as we speak. Rik and David (also of Honeyfeet) have been brewing up some filthy loveliness, and I for one will take a dose
Of course we're friends with the Cheese-meister General, he's one of us for cripes sake! Tom is often spotted playing solo sets all around the country, flashing his doodles at the pretty ladies. When he gets his full band behind him though, his ear-to-ear grin would make the Cheshire Cat jealous, and a cracking time is had by band and audience alike
We can confidently say that if you don't know Alabaster, then you definitely do not know anybody quite like Alabaster. He's a one-man, sax-wielding wordsmith, and has been accurately described as "harrowingly funny". A former early member of Victorian Dad, we couldn't leash him for long, and anyway we think one of the neighbours started feeding him so we're sure he'll do just fine.
These chirpy looking fellows made the animated music video for the song Old Coal Town, and are basically dead good 'n' that so you should use them for your projects too. Their portfolio is pretty diverse - check 'em out
Manchester stalwarts I Am Kloot have been on the Manc music scene for a good while now, and have been good friends and confidantes of VD since its inception. They are very very good and you should definitely acquire some of their sounds if you haven't already.
Who is you favourite clown troupe? We flippin' well know who ours is, and you're currently looking at 'em. Party entertainers please move aside, as these guys are as prestigious and professional as you can get whilst wearing clothes 8 sizes too small. Any situation can be instantly improved by the addition of this bunch of classically trained ninnys, and we love them for it
Mikey is one of those horrendously talented multi-instrumentalists who puts the rest of us to shame. To top it off, he's also a really nice and genuine guy; what a bastard. Mikey occasionally does a bit of guest instrumental work with VD, when he's not galavanting around the world. Whatever project you see him with though, he's well worth it
Originally hailing from Wigan, Denis used to live with the band in the 18th Century Manchester farmhouse where VD originally took shape. Since then he's been working hard, peddling his own unique blend of self-taught electronic acoustic wizardry to the masses. In summary, he is ace and you should get some. Boosh.
Top fella, top tunes. Another one to look out for
Brian has been mooching around music for over 25 years, doing graphic design and video-work for artists big and small. He makes stuff look dead good and that, and you'd probably recognise a fair bit of his work. Keep your peepers peeled, as there may very well be a VD collaboration on the horizon...
Winner of George Harrison lookalike contests the world over, Jimmy was one of our founding members and is an absolutely superb guitarist. His finger-style solo work is flippin' sublime, and if you manage to catch him gigging you're definitely in for a treat. Get in!
Mark at Rooksmere engineered and produced our debut album and did some damn fine work if we do say so ourselves. He's got lots of fingers in lots of pies and is a great guy to boot. Not that we advocate booting him.
As well as hosting many of VD's earlier gigs (and regular Xmas homecoming gigs), most of the band learned to drink in the Tudor and so it helped make us the fine specimens we are today. Thus it's more of a friend than a pub, albeit one that our mothers probably wouldn't approve of. Here's to you Mr/Mrs Tudor, may you corrupt the screbs of Wigan for many years to come!
Debt are a Manchester-based music label/collective who look after a lot of our friends. Have a gander at their site and roster, you'll be sure to like what you discover
Honeyfeet are awesome, as well as bloody nice chaps. Their music is beyond compare, and if you're not up dancing by the end of their set, you seriously need to reassess your life.
Bristol-based singer-songwriter Jamie is a top banana. His songs can be playful, dark, and completely ridiculous, and they suit him perfectly. Go on, have a listen
Louis Barabbas & The Bedlam Six have been knocking about in the same sort of places as Victorian Dad for the last half a decade or so, and if you recognise that handsome fellow on the right you'll see there's even a bit of cross-pollination going on. Bands can all get a bit incestuous if left to their own devices, it's just best not to think about it. Regardless, they're all lovely talented blokes and if you like, rock, swing and sweat you should go see them if you get the chance
We've known Liz for a long time and are chuffed to bits at how well she's doing these days. Good music, good musicianship, good girl. Onward and upward!
In no particular order, here's a brief selection of musicians, collectives, techies, and generally lovely people we think you should know about. Check them out, because you'd be a fool not to:
